World Car FREE day is soon approaching and will be taking place this year on Sunday 22nd September 2024!
Car – free Sunday is a breath of fresh air in our busy lives! The day invites everyone to leave their cars at home and enjoy the streets free of traffic and pollution.
People bike, walk or use public transportation in order to reduce air pollution and encourage a healthier more active lifestyle reducing the amount of harmful emissions released into the atmosphere. It shows us the potential benefits of reduced vehicle dependence, advocating for more sustainable urban planning and transport policies. The day is about enjoying less congested streets and reimagining our urban environments as clear, greener and more accessible spaces for everyone.
Active Westminster want to reduce the number of cars on the road on this day by encouraging residents and the local community to facilitate more Street Play sessions to take place. To give you some background if you do not know already but Street Play is a one-off road closure for children and families to play in streets on a specified day, time and location. Active Westminster are welcoming new applications for this day specifically and would love to get as many Street Play sessions on as possible for children, young people and their families to take part in. There is a tight deadline, and all applications need to be in by Friday 16th August so we have enough time to turn them around prior to Sunday 22nd September World Car FREE day is soon approaching and will be taking place this year on Sunday 22nd September 2024!
